A brief history of the Squadron:

The West Island Squadron (WIS) is a unit of Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons. We're in the St-Lawrence District, which has over 700 members among its four squadrons. Our squadron, along with two others, is based on Lake St-Louis which lies south of Montreal Island. One squadron is north on the Lake of Two Mountains.

We are based at the Beaconsfield Yacht Club (BYC), in Beaconsfield, Quebec. Our courses are held primarily here, and a couple of kilometers up the shore road at the Lord Reading Yacht Club. Both clubs are in the city of Beaconsfield, (Montreal) Quebec.

The West Island Squadron may be smaller than other squadrons, but as far as course participation and enthusiasm, we can compete with the best of them. In fact, we have more Celestial Navigation graduates than any other squadron in Canada!

Would you like a free Boat Safety Courtesy check?

The "Pleasure Craft Safety Courtesy Check" is a free service that we offer for Pleasure Craft of less than 20 meters in length. This consists of an inspection by our Officers, who are authorized by the Regional Office of Boating Safety and Transport Canada. The purpose of this inspection is to determine that you have all the regulatory equipment required by the Small Vessel Regulations and Collision Regulations, which are pursuant to the Canada Shipping Act.

When your equipment is deemed present and functional, you will receive a compliance sticker that you can proudly display on your boat.

Call the West Island Squadron at (514) 913-0251 to make an appointment.
